So sweet.

Today I was at yet another family function – everyone here knows how much I hate these.  This one was particularly entertaining though, as my 8 year old nephew, who gets diagnosed with ADD and all that nonsense on a weekly basis, decided to have a major freak out.  Bear in mind he’s 8 years old – and he started screaming at his brother “YOU STUPID FUCKING IDIOT”, called his dad a “FUCKING SHITHEAD”, and called his mom a “FUCKING HO”, before being dragged out by his hair.

I’ve put my foot down BTW, and stated that if there is any family functions in the future where that child will be, my kids fucking won’t.

Anyhoo compare that to my son, who this past week we started the “checkmark” system with, where he gets checkmarks for doing stuff on a daily basis.  This can be like brushing his teeth, eating all his dinner, sharing with his sister, putting his dirty clothes in the hamper etc.  If he does all this by the end of the week, he gets a $4 allowance.  All week he has been so excited to get the allowance, and today was the day.  We talked about it, and he agreed to buy $1 worth of candy, and save the other $3 for toys.

So I take him to the candy store, and he buys $1 worth of candy, but then he wants two sticks of licorice.  I figure hey it’s his money – so he buys that too.  And what does he do with it?  Gives one stick of it to the wife, and another stick to Ella.

Just one of those great little moments only parenthood can bring. 🙂
