I’m now a 9-5er

Posted by Scotsman on July 29, 2009 in Life |

Or more accurately, an x-5er.

I was thinking a lot about my life lately.  I’m an admitted workaholic, and it’s not uncommon for me to be working from the second i wake up until I head to bed.  To be honest, I’ve always felt like I was working towards something – where sometine in the near future, I would be able to basically “retire” – I’d have a staff that would deal with all my websites, and I could sit back and reap the benefit of years of hard work, in a basic semi-retirement.

Who the fuck am I kidding???

There’s a reason why even in their 70s you still see actors in movies.  Or why the likes of Mick Foley still wrestle.  Or why Donald Trump is still working his ass off every day.  It’s because they love what they do, and I’m the same way.  I fucking love my job.  Even if I DID get all my work done, and had websites for every domain I own – I’d be out the very next day buying more domains, building more websites, running more PPC campaigns etc.  It’s because this is what I do – and I love it.

So I had to rethink things, because if I kept it the way I was I’d be working all day every day until I was dead.  So over the weekend I decided that every day, I will quit working at 5pm.  There’s no set time to start work – it’s whenever I feel like it.  Some days I’ll start work at 6am, others at 10am – and other days I may not even bother working.  But the main thing is at 5pm every day, my computer is turned off and won’t be turned on until the next morning.

I’ve tried things like this before – like working only 4 days a week, things like that.  It’s never really worked out though.  This is the first time where I’m actually really feeling good about my decision.  I’ve did it Monday and Tuesday already this week and it felt great.  It has been a very nice feeling turning off my computer at 5pm, and knowing I won’t be on it till the next day.  It also made me more productive during the day knowing that I have a quitting time.

That’s pretty much life for me at the moment – now if you don’t mind I gotta get back to work – only 5 and a half hours till I’m done for the day!

A sad story involving mice

Posted by Scotsman on July 23, 2009 in Life |

Well as seems common for every Summer, our cupboards were invaded by mice.  I’ve given up trying to block all the holes that they squeeze through as it’s just fucking impossible.  We opened our cupboards last week through to discover a bunch of mouse poop, so up went the trap, and the very next day we had a nice big fat dead mouse.

The mother mouse.

Who just had a bunch of babies.

🙁

I like to picture the story like this – the mother had a bunch of babies, and has them outside somewhere in a safe spot.  However she needs to feed them, so she picked our house to come in and get some food to feed her babies.  Well one night there was the chilling sound of a trap slamming shut on a neck, which awoke the babies from their sleep.  The mother didn’t come back, and so apparently now one by one each day, the mice leave their nest to look for their mummy.

Some of them got off lucky.  Like this one that Janise found when she went to make a cup of coffee:

mouse

He was alive and well, and just looked scared as hell.  We took him off to a field or something and let him free.

Unfortunately he is the ONLY lucky one.  It seems every night, yet another mouse goes off seeking their mother.  Unfortunately they don’t find their mother…..

…..they find my cat…..

cat

and then I find this:

mouse2

Wonderful isn’t it?  The cat doesn’t just kill em – it RIPS THEIR GUTS OUT.  Also I’ve seen it in action before – it likes to injure the mouse, then chase it around the yard smacking it all over the place.  What a cunt.

So yeah – that’s what I have woken up to every morning for the last 4 days.  Nothing like picking up a mouse with its guts pop out to put you off your rice krispies.

Wheeeeeeeeeeee

Posted by Scotsman on July 18, 2009 in Life |

I love that word.  “Wheeeeeeeeeee”.  It’s one of those words you just can’t say without smiling.  Seriously – say it in a gruff, angry voice and you can’t help but smile.

Anyway…

Not much happening on the Scotsman front.  Going to my stepbrothers wedding tonight which should be fun.  Other than that I’ve just been busy working, although had a more relaxed schedule this week.  I also booked my trip to Budapest for the affiliate conference and looking forward to that.

Really – I don’t want to write here because I have some free time and I want to watch The Sopranos.  I’m at Season 3 episode 4 and if you look up an episode guide you’ll remember WHY this is such a fucking awesome period for the Sopranos.  Holy shit is it good.

Off to watch.
