My Kids.

Posted by Scotsman on May 13, 2009 in Life |

I haven’t really dedicated a blog entry in awhile to my kids, so I figure hey why not take some time out of my busy life and do just that.

Mason is now 5 of course, and will be 6 in November.  He’s a busy little guy.  He has school 5 days a week, and then at night he’s always got sports going on.  Swimming, hockey, soccer, baseball, sportball, gymnastics, karate and a whole ton more I can’t even fucking remember.  When he’s not out at these things, he likes to play the XBox 360.  Monsters vs Aliens is his game of choice at the moment.  Toy wise he is real into the Bakugon toys, although I’m sure he’ll move onto something else soon.  He also enjoys playing flash games on the computer.

He has a new catchphrase a week.  Two weeks ago it was “OH BOY”.  Last week it was “HOLY SMOKES”.  This week it’s “OH BOY SMOKES”.  Quite amusing.  He’s also really pumped for Night at the Museum 2 and has been counting down the days until the release date.  Going to bed tonight was 9 sleeps I believe.

As for Ella – she turns 2 later this month, May 28th to be exact.  She is just adorable, and I can’t believe she’ll be 2 already.  Her progression in regard to speaking has been a bit slow, so you often forget how old she actually is, and you still act like she’s – well, a stupid baby.  But she’s really very smart, and I’m always amazed at the things she picks up on and does.  She also LOVES sleeping, and her afternoon nap is like her most favourite thing in the world.  I’ll wake her up every morning and she’ll just lie there, not wanting to get out of bed.

She doesn’t do as many classes as Mason – she does sportball and gymnastics for now, and goes to parent relief(basically daycare) once a week for a few hours.  In September we’ll enroll her in actual daycare for 2-3 days a week, as shit like that can help them socially big time.

When she was at parent relief last week, there was a photographer there and she actually ended up in the newspaper.  She’s the kid on the right with the pigtails:

She may look innocent, but she’s actually a fucking terror, truth be told.  She absolutely loves to just beat the shit out of everyone and anyone.  Also she’ll steal Masons toys, wait for him to see, and then run off with it.  That’s cute and all, but then when he takes it back, she starts SMACKING him and screaming and having a huge tantrum.  She also loves kicking balls about, and will most likely be a good soccer player given the opportunity.

Mason had a gymnastics show last week – here is some video footage – he’s the 2nd kid out BTW:

Anyway – that’s pretty much it.  If you ever wonder why I rarely take vacation days, or why I’m working my ass off for a minimum of 12 hours a day, 7 days a week – there’s two very good reasons above.   I love my kids more than life itself, and they provide all the motivation I need.

Oh man

Posted by Scotsman on May 13, 2009 in Life |

I just can’t believe how fucking busy I am right now.

Last week, I got my “urgent” to do list cleared.  The plan was on Saturday to launch my casino affiliate site, Sunday do No Pants Provided work that is needed, then Monday through Friday this week to launch one new site a day.

However on the weekend I ended up taking it off for the most part, spending time with the family.  Since then, it’s just been unreal.  So many things have cropped up work related for me to do, e-mails are coming in like crazy, I’ve had a couple of conference calls with some sub-affiliates wanting to do things.  Basically it has just been non-stop work for the past two days.  I worked 7am-7pm non-stop on Monday, and today(Tuesday) I’ve worked from 7am-until….well, right now 12:30am Wednesday morning.  I ate breakfast at my desk, lunch at my desk, skipped dinner as I was feeling sick and had a brief shower break and that was pretty much it.  It was rakeback payment day today, which takes up the majority of my time.

The good thing is I’ve managed to watch lots of Spin City, and am halfway through Season 3.  The bad thing is that I didn’t get ANY of those sites launched that I wanted to.  I’m going to go the fuck to bed just now, hopefully wake up early and just get a good start on all this work that’s piling up.  My blackberry has been ringing like crazy with new e-mails.

To make matters worse – I worked out on Monday for the first time in like forever.  It was a very intense workout, and I loved every minute of it, but I’ve been paying the price today as my body is just fucking aching.  I’m hoping to start slow(Monday, Wednesdays & Fridays) for awhile but the way my body is aching I might have to work up to that.  Christ.  So out of fucking shape.

I haven’t played XBox in so long either 🙁  That makes me sad.

Anyhoo, off the fuck to bed.  I was going to watch the rest of the Rockets-Lakers game, but as I have the Rockets +12.5 I think I’ll give it a miss – I don’t enjoy late night depression.

I always have good intentions

Posted by Scotsman on May 11, 2009 in Life |

So I’m subscribed to a mailing list from my local library – Kingston Frontenac Public Library.  Once a month, I get an e-mail from them listing new books in the Thrillers and Suspense category.  It also has a section every month where it’s like “If you liked this author, try these authors”, as well as a few other random books.  Here’s an example:

thrillers-suspense

So every month I get this.  However – although I’m a big reader, I find it hard to try new authors.  My favourite authors are John Grisham, Lee Child, Stephen Hunter, James Patterson, David Baldacci and Brad Meltzer.  Over the last few years, I can’t think of any other authors I have actually read.  Outside of those authors, I’ll read books on search engine optimization, sports betting etc.  When it comes to fiction however, I always stick with those guys.

However I always have good intentions to read other authors, so I have a “Books” mailbox folder and I put these e-mails into that mailbox, with the intention of going through them and finding new authors…..I don’t know; eventually I guess.

So I do this every month.  Today I wondered how long it’d been since I was on this mailing list, never having even looked at one of these e-mails.  I figured it was a few months or something:

books-list

In case you can’t read that – that’s from NOVEMBER 2006.  I have been subscribed to this fucking thing for OVER TWO YEARS and I haven’t even read one goddamn e-mail.  Yet I’m not going to unsubscribe because MAYBE ONE DAY I will actually try a new goddamn author, and then I have like 600 e-mails to go through and peruse.  Lucky me.

Also – there’s an e-mail in there from Vin.  He’s talking about the Mick Foley book – the 3rd one.  He bought it the same time I did and he’d e-mail me his thoughts.  Here’s the exact e-mail there:

i wish theyd make a dvd of thsi book with all the angles and matches. its so good. i couldnt believe that heyman called mick a whore! what an asshole. i also totally agree on micks summation of ECW. sad as that may make me, but its true. all the little kids stuff is real good and makes me happy. i am gonna sponsor a kid i think. its real cheap, why not? his part with jericho is good too. i wish that book came out today too. i think the general problem with wrestling books is they try to squeeze whole careers into one book. if jericho wrote one about everything but his time in WWE, that making it to WWE was the conclusion thatd be sweet. Then he could write another about his time in WWE, if the first one was good enough. I read Stone Cold Truth and its like boom boom boom. Just good anecdotes about stuff not a real good story because its all flown through. No arc to it. He was funny though as he continually mentioned that he was the biggest draw and biggest merchandise guy eve
r but would say he wasnt bragging. ANYWAYS you should join the thing with kids too. That way we can compare letters about our foreigner kids. I like this book better than Foley is Good, by a lot. Maybe because I didnt really care about his feud with HHH or I never saw most of the stuff hes writing about now. I dont know. I just like this one a lot better. I agree with so much he says about booking. Letting people talk, and this feud with FUnk/Dreamer. Like if they didnt do everything “the WWE way” he probably could get them over as threats. OOh and what he says about RKO. God I love this book. w/b

To summarize – Vin’s a complete fag.

Degeneration: A Whole New Level

Posted by Scotsman on May 10, 2009 in Gambling |

So every week, if my son has been a good boy, did his chores, cleaned up after himself, put his PJs in the laundry basket etc, we give him an allowance of $4.  Why am I telling you this?  Well because today is Sunday, the day my son gets his allowance.

And May 10, 2009 will also mark my sons first sports bet!

After dinner, we went in to watch some TV.  The Red Wings/Ducks game was on, with 8 minutes left in the 3rd period, and the score 2-1 to the Red Wings.  Now I’m the kind of guy that just can’t watch sports without betting on it.  Period.  It doesn’t matter what teams it involves – I just have to bet on sports.  So I jumped onto Betfair Mobile, only to discover there was no liquidity in the market.  Fuck!  I texted my local bookie, but he didn’t get back to me and the game was starting again after a break.

It was at that point which I turned to my son, pointed to his allowance and said “How would you like DOUBLE that?”

Yep, I convinced my son to put up his hard-earned allowance, and bet on the hockey with me.  He took the Red Wings, and if he won he’d get $4.  I took the Ducks, and if they won I’d get his full allowance.  The odds were in his favour, but that’s okay – what you do is you reel them in with low juice, then you hit them with it when they’re hooked.

Well if you watched the game, Red Wings scored with 4 minutes left and that was all she wrote.  So my son won $4 off me in his first sports bet, and went rushing to the candy store to celebrate with cola bottles and gummi bears.  I am convinced I am going to be called to school some day, because my son is betting his lunch money against others that he can finish the math test first or something.

What was great though was seeing his eyes light up when the Red Wings scored, and he knew he was collecting that money.  We spent the next 20 minutes discussing other sports we could bet on, a topic which as you can imagine, didn’t exactly delight my wife.

“I’ll remember this day”, she said.  “If he turns into a degenerate gambler, gambling his life away, it’ll be because of this day.”

As long as he does that via my affiliate trackers, I have no problem with that. 🙂
